ONDO WARNS AGAINST VANDALISM OF CAMPAIGN BILLBOARDS
The Ondo State Government has condemned the destruction of political campaign materials across the state, warning that those responsible will be identified and prosecuted.
In a statement, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Signage and Advertisement, Yomi Oyekan, accused some political actors of deliberately vandalising campaign billboards belonging to rival aspirants.
He described the act as criminal and a threat to democratic principles, stressing that it undermines fair competition and the rule of law.
According to the government, security agencies have been alerted, with credible intelligence already available on those involved. Authorities warned that both perpetrators and their sponsors would face legal consequences.
The administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa reiterated its commitment to ensuring a level playing field for all aspirants, regardless of political affiliation.
It also emphasised that all candidates have the constitutional right to campaign freely without intimidation, harassment, or destruction of property.
The government urged political actors and their supporters to avoid violence and adopt issue-based campaigns, warning that the state would not tolerate any form of political desperation or unlawful conduct.
