ONDO VARSITY WORKERS SUSPEND STRIKE
** **
Workers in three tertiary institutions owned by the Ondo State Government have suspended their one-month industrial action and will resume duties on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
The affected workers are members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Non-Academic Staff Union and National Association of Academic Technologists.
The unions began the strike on September 2 over issues including unpaid allowances, staff welfare concerns and the implementation of agreed Federal Government-union wage structures.
The affected institutions are Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, and the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo.
The Joint Action Committee of the Ondo State-owned tertiary institutions said the decision followed a financial intervention by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The unions appreciated the governor and other stakeholders involved in efforts to resolve the dispute, which had disrupted activities in the institutions.
They, however, urged the management of the affected universities to address the outstanding non-financial aspects of the Federal Government-unions agreement.
The unions said resolving the remaining issues would help prevent another industrial dispute from affecting academic activities.
The suspension follows an agreement reached between the state government and university unions on the implementation of the Federal Government-union wage structure and related allowances.
