Secondary school principals in Ondo State have urged the state government to deploy more security personnel to schools to protect students, teachers and educational facilities.

The call was made by the Ondo State chapter of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools during an interaction with journalists in Akure.

The state ANCOPSS President, Aminu Olugbenga, identified inadequate security personnel as one of the major challenges facing public schools.

He said school infrastructure, equipment and students required adequate protection, while urging the government to strengthen security arrangements around schools.

Olugbenga also highlighted shortages of laboratory attendants, library assistants, secretaries to principals and ICT teachers as other challenges affecting schools.

He commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration for recruiting teachers, rehabilitating schools and ensuring the payment of teachers’ salaries.

According to him, the recent recruitment of teachers had helped address manpower shortages caused by retirement, death and other forms of attrition.

He also praised ongoing renovation and rehabilitation projects being carried out by the state government and the State Universal Basic Education Board.

The ANCOPSS president called for stronger collaboration among government, parents, alumni associations, communities, philanthropists and development partners to support the development of public education.

He said continued investment in teachers, students, infrastructure and other educational support services was necessary to improve learning conditions across the state.
