ONDO ORDERS REMOVAL OF ABANDONED HEAVY VEHICLES FROM ROADS
The Ondo State Government has ordered owners of abandoned heavy-duty vehicles, trucks, construction equipment and large watercraft obstructing roads and waterways across the state to remove them within seven days.
The directive, announced on Wednesday by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Emergency Response and Safety Enforcement, Wellington Adebawo, is aimed at reducing safety risks to motorists, pedestrians, commuters and waterway users.
Adebawo said the government had conducted a survey across the state’s 18 local government areas to identify abandoned vehicles, machinery and other obstructions creating potential hazards.
He urged individuals, companies and businesses with abandoned trucks, trailers, construction equipment and other heavy machinery on roads or public spaces to relocate them to safe locations before the deadline.
Owners of abandoned boats, barges and other commercial watercraft were also directed to retrieve and relocate their vessels to designated areas within the same seven-day period.
According to Adebawo, abandoned heavy equipment can obstruct traffic, reduce visibility and limit available road space, increasing the risk of avoidable accidents.
He warned that owners who fail to comply by October 7, 2026, will face enforcement action, including removal and impoundment of the affected vehicles, equipment and watercraft. The items may also be forfeited in line with applicable laws and regulations.
The government said there would be no extension or grace period after the seven-day deadline and urged all affected owners and operators to act promptly.
The directive, according to the state government, is part of its efforts to improve safety, strengthen emergency response and protect lives and property across Ondo State.
