A 53-year-old man, Babawale Kolawole, has been arrested and formally charged by the Ondo State Police Command over allegations of repeated sexual abuse of his 16-year-old niece, which reportedly resulted in two terminated pregnancies.

The disturbing case, which has sparked public outrage, allegedly took place at Kolawole’s residence located at No. 12, Okeodunwo Street, Igbado, in Ondo West Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday in Akure by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, the matter was brought to the attention of authorities following a complaint filed by the victim on September 13, 2025.

The teenager claimed that her uncle subjected her to near-daily sexual assaults. She further alleged that after each incident, Kolawole would wipe her private parts with a cloth and, on two occasions, arranged for the termination of pregnancies resulting from the abuse.

Following the report, officers from the Gender-Based Offences Unit swiftly apprehended Kolawole and brought him before the court. The presiding judge ordered his remand in custody pending further proceedings.

DSP Ayanlade reaffirmed the command’s unwavering commitment to combating sexual violence, emphasizing that the protection of women and children remains a top priority. He assured that perpetrators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
