ONDO LABOUR ACCUSES TEACHING HOSPITAL OF UNION VICTIMISATION

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Ondo State have accused the management of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH) of victimising union leaders and members.

In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, the labour centres alleged that several union executives have been suspended, transferred, or denied promotions for demanding better welfare packages and improved working conditions.

The unions claimed the hospital’s management has consistently undermined collective bargaining agreements, describing the actions as “blatant union-busting tactics” aimed at weakening workers’ voices.

Reacting to the allegation, UNIMEDTH management denied victimising any staff, insisting that all disciplinary measures were in line with public service rules and due process.

The hospital spokesperson noted that some workers had engaged in acts of misconduct and sabotage that affected healthcare service delivery.

Ondo State NLC Chairman, Comrade Bola Oladimeji, warned that failure to resolve the crisis could lead to industrial action, including a possible strike that would disrupt medical services at the teaching hospital.

Stakeholders have called for urgent intervention by the state government to prevent a full-blown labour crisis in the health sector.
