Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has promised that those behind the attack and bombing of the Ipele Divisional Police Station in Owo Local Government Area will be apprehended and prosecuted.

The governor made the pledge after chairing an emergency meeting of the State Security Council in Akure to assess the incident, which took place on New Year’s Eve.

According to reports, about 30 armed men on motorcycles stormed the police station late Wednesday night and detonated an explosive device while residents attended crossover church services to welcome the new year.

Governor Aiyedatiwa stated that security agencies across the state have been placed on full alert to prevent further breaches. He explained that the attackers were forced to retreat following the swift and coordinated response of security operatives.

“Security agencies responded immediately, compelling the assailants to flee. The prompt action ensured that the situation was quickly brought under control and the impact of the attack was minimized,” the governor said.

He added that although the attackers managed to enter the police station and set off an explosive, no lives were lost due to the rapid intervention of security forces.

“They breached the facility, but the speed of the response helped contain the situation. Thankfully, no casualties were recorded,” he noted.

Governor Aiyedatiwa confirmed that the damage was limited to the police station building. All officers on duty were unharmed and have since resumed patrols to maintain security in the area.

The emergency security meeting focused on evaluating the incident, reviewing the effectiveness of the response, and implementing measures to prevent a recurrence.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 17, Ajani Musibau, also visited the scene and condemned the attack, describing it as a serious and unacceptable threat to public safety and security.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
