ONDO GOV APPOINTS PROF. TOMOLA OBAMUYI AS NEW AAUA VICE-CHANCELLOR

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Professor Tomola M. Obamuyi as the new Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA). The appointment takes effect as Professor Olugbenga Ige concludes his tenure as the 6th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

A statement from the Ondo State Government on Friday confirmed the decision, describing Professor Obamuyi as a distinguished academic with vast experience in university administration and a professor of Banking and Finance. He is expected to assume office soon, bringing his expertise to steer the university towards greater academic excellence and institutional development.

Professor Obamuyi, who previously served in key leadership roles at AAUA, including as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, is widely respected for his contributions to research, teaching, and governance in higher education. His appointment follows a rigorous selection process by the university’s governing council in line with the institution’s laws.

Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that the new Vice-Chancellor will build on the remarkable strides recorded under Professor Ige, who has been commended for elevating AAUA’s visibility, research output, and global ranking during his stewardship. The governor urged the university community to extend full support and cooperation to Professor Obamuyi for sustained progress.

Reacting to the appointment, stakeholders in the education sector hailed it as a strategic choice that prioritises competence and institutional knowledge.

 Professor Ige’s tenure has been marked by significant infrastructural upgrades, academic innovations, and improved staff welfare at the university.
