The Ondo State Competition and Consumer Protection Agency has warned businesses against selling fake, expired, adulterated and substandard products, saying offenders could face sanctions and prosecution.

Executive Chairman Oluyemi Fasipe issued the warning on Thursday, promising stronger action against practices that endanger consumers or deny them fair value.

He also cautioned traders against manipulating measurements, using deceptive pricing and exploiting unsuspecting customers.

According to Fasipe, enforcement measures will include investigations, regulatory sanctions and prosecution. Premises could also be sealed where the law permits.

He said the agency would carry out its responsibilities under the Ondo State Competition and Consumer Protection Law, 2026.

“There will be no sacred cows, no preferential treatment and no immunity based on wealth, status or connections,” he stated.

Fasipe stressed that the agency supported legitimate businesses and responsible profit-making but would act against commercial exploitation.

“You are free to make profit, but you are not free to endanger lives, deceive consumers or violate their rights,” he said.

He urged manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers and retailers to understand their obligations and comply with the law.

Residents were also encouraged to remain vigilant and report unfair business practices to the relevant authorities.

The agency said consumer protection would remain its priority as it strengthens oversight across the state.
