OLUREMI TINUBU SET FOR FIRST OFFICIAL ANAMBRA VISIT, 5,000 RESIDENTS TO BENEFIT FROM EMPOWERMENT SCHEME

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is scheduled to visit Anambra State on Thursday, September 10, 2026, in what will be her first official visit to the state since she assumed the position of First Lady.

The visit is expected to strengthen collaboration between the Federal Government and the Anambra State Government, particularly in areas relating to poverty reduction, economic empowerment, food security and support for vulnerable members of the society. The planned activities will also provide an opportunity for the Renewed Hope Initiative to extend some of its programmes to residents of the state.

A major component of the First Lady’s visit will be the empowerment of 5,000 people under the Progressives United Against Poverty Initiative. The programme is being implemented in partnership with the Anambra State Government in support of the Renewed Hope Initiative Economic Support Scheme championed by Senator Tinubu.

The empowerment programme is designed to provide beneficiaries with practical economic assistance and opportunities to improve their livelihoods. Particular attention is expected to be given to individuals and households that require support to strengthen their economic activities and become more financially productive and self-reliant.

Another major event scheduled for the visit is the launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East geopolitical zone. The initiative, which falls under the Renewed Hope Initiative, is aimed at improving food security and providing targeted assistance to vulnerable households facing challenges associated with hunger and nutrition.

Anambra will consequently serve as the launch point for the food bank programme in the South-East, adding a regional dimension to the First Lady’s visit. The intervention is expected to complement other government efforts aimed at assisting vulnerable Nigerians and strengthening access to food for households in need.

As part of her itinerary, Senator Tinubu is also expected to visit the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, where she will commission selected projects at the institution. The engagement at the polytechnic forms part of the broader programme of activities planned for her visit to the state.

The visit comes amid what both the Federal Government and Anambra State have described as an increasingly cooperative relationship. During President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s previous visit to the state, he described the relationship between the Federal Government and Anambra as being founded on partnership and shared prosperity, while commending the development efforts of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration.

For Anambra residents, the visit is expected to have both social and economic significance, particularly for those selected to participate in the empowerment programme. With 5,000 beneficiaries expected to receive support and the South-East food bank initiative scheduled for launch, the activities are expected to place poverty reduction and food security at the centre of the First Lady’s engagement.

The September 10 visit will also mark a significant milestone in Senator Tinubu’s official engagements with Anambra State. Beyond the ceremonial aspects of the trip, the planned empowerment, food-security intervention and commissioning of projects are expected to provide a platform for further cooperation between the Federal Government and the state in addressing the needs of residents.
