OKONKWO BACKS OPPOSITION COALITION

Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign, has said a united opposition coalition remains the strongest path to defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Okonkwo made the statement during an interview with Ibeju Upgrade Media, where he also questioned the ability of individual opposition candidates to unseat Tinubu without a broader alliance.

He argued that opposition parties would need to put aside personal and political interests and work together if they hope to present a strong challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Okonkwo also dismissed the possibility of Peter Obi defeating Tinubu on his own, maintaining that the opposition would have a better chance of winning with a single, coordinated political platform.

Efforts by opposition leaders to form a coalition have faced difficulties, particularly as major figures have continued to pursue separate political arrangements ahead of the 2027 election.

The opposition’s coalition discussions have involved prominent figures including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, although disagreements over candidates and political platforms have continued to test the alliance.

Okonkwo’s comments come as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, with opposition parties seeking strategies capable of challenging Tinubu and the APC.
