OGUN YOUTHS PLEDGE TO SHUN CULTISM, DRUG ABUSE AND CYBERCRIME

Youths in Ogun State have pledged to reject cultism, drug abuse and cybercrime as part of efforts to promote safer communities and discourage young people from engaging in criminal activities.

The pledge was made during a sensitisation programme organised by the Ogun State Police Command to educate youths on the dangers and consequences of criminal behaviour.

The police said the initiative was designed to strengthen engagement with young people and encourage them to make positive choices while contributing to security within their communities.

During the programme, participants were encouraged to avoid associations and activities that could expose them to crime, violence and substance abuse.

The police also highlighted the dangers of cybercrime, warning youths against using digital platforms for fraudulent activities and other offences.

Authorities urged parents, community leaders, schools and other stakeholders to play a greater role in guiding young people and creating opportunities that can keep them away from crime.

The youths, in response, pledged to reject cult groups, drug abuse and internet-related crimes while encouraging their peers to follow lawful and productive paths.

The police said sustained collaboration with young people would remain important in tackling insecurity and reducing youth-related crime across Ogun State.

The command also encouraged residents to report suspicious activities to security agencies.
