Tension erupted in Sowo Village, Ogun State, on Wednesday as residents blocked the Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway in protest following a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of four schoolchildren from Iddo Primary School in Kobape.

The fatal incident occurred around 3 p.m. when a speeding Toyota Corolla, with registration number KSF 579 DM, reportedly lost control and struck the children as they were walking home from school.

This tragedy comes just two days after another fatal accident at the Siun junction along the same expressway, where a motorcyclist and his passenger lost their lives.

Eyewitnesses said the impact of the collision instantly killed the four pupils. Some enraged youths at the scene attempted to attack the driver, but security personnel intervened and prevented further violence.

Speaking on the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed that the victims were rushed to the General Hospital in Ijaiye, where medical personnel officially declared them dead.

Akinbiyi explained, “Four male pupils from Iddo Primary School, Kobape, were walking along the roadside when the speeding vehicle veered off the road and struck them. Sadly, all four died at the scene.”

The remains of the pupils were later handed over to their families for burial.

In response to the tragedy, aggrieved members of the community staged a protest on the expressway, disrupting traffic flow for several hours. However, the situation was eventually brought under control through the combined efforts of TRACE officials, police officers, and military personnel.

This incident followed another crash at the Siun junction earlier in the week, involving multiple vehicles. That accident occurred when a truck reportedly lost control and collided with a car (plate number KTU 152 JB), a Mazda bus (LSR 345 YK), a motorcycle (KNN 515 VD), and another truck (T5582 LA), resulting in the deaths of two people.
