OGUN POLICE WARN ILLEGAL TRANSPORT UNIONS, REAFFIRM SUPPORT FOR PEACE AND SAFETY
The Ogun State Police Command has issued a firm warning to illegal transport unions operating in the state, saying it will not tolerate any group or individual disrupting public peace and order.
In a statement released on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the police emphasized their continued commitment to ensuring safety, law, and order across the transport sector. The warning follows reports of activities by unapproved union operators causing tension and conflicts in the state.
According to the statement, only eight recognized transport unions are authorized to operate and collect revenue in the public transport space across Ogun State. These unions include:
Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) – Buses and taxis
National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) (in collaboration with OGSPAM and OSOMS)
Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN) – Motorcycle taxis (Okada)
Articulated Motorcycle and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN)
Riders and Owners of Motorcycle Organization (ROMO)
Riders and Owners of Tricycle Organization (ROTO) – Tricycle taxis (Keke Napep/Marwa)
Tricycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (TORAN)
Three Wheelers Operators and Riders Association (TWORA)
The police said any other group operating outside these bodies will be considered illegal and dealt with accordingly.
Odutola encouraged anyone or any group wishing to become legally recognized to go through the proper registration channels with the Ogun State Government.
“This clampdown is not just about control but about ensuring safety for everyone using public transport,” she said. “Unregistered unions not only break the law but also pose a threat to peace, and that won’t be allowed.”
Residents and transport users are also urged to report any suspicious or unregistered operators to law enforcement for appropriate action.
The message is clear from the Ogun Police: Peace, order, and accountability must return to the roads — and anyone standing in the way will face the full force of the law.
