OGUN POLICE SET SEPTEMBER 23 DEADLINE FOR SPY VEHICLE DOCUMENTATION
The Ogun State Police Command has directed owners and users of vehicles fitted with covered number plates, commonly referred to as spy plates, to complete their documentation with the command before the deadline of September 23, 2026. The directive is part of efforts to regulate the use of the number plates and improve the identification of vehicles operating across the state.
The command said the exercise requires affected vehicle owners to present relevant documents for verification and registration. Police authorities explained that proper documentation would help establish the identity and ownership of vehicles using covered number plates and assist security agencies in monitoring their activities. The command warned that vehicles whose owners fail to comply with the directive may face enforcement action after the deadline.
The police said the documentation exercise is also intended to address the misuse of spy number plates, which can make it difficult for law enforcement officers to identify vehicles during security operations. The command urged individuals, organisations and other vehicle users affected by the directive to take advantage of the period provided to regularise their documentation and avoid unnecessary confrontation with law enforcement personnel.
The Ogun State Police Command further advised motorists to cooperate with officers carrying out the exercise and ensure that all documents presented are genuine and valid. It stressed that the directive is not targeted at legitimate vehicle owners but is aimed at improving accountability and strengthening security within the state. Police personnel were also expected to conduct the process professionally and in accordance with established procedures.
The command urged members of the public to complete the required documentation on or before September 23, after which enforcement measures would be applied to vehicles that remain undocumented. The police said the exercise forms part of broader security measures designed to improve vehicle identification, support effective policing and reduce the possibility of vehicles being used to conceal criminal activities within Ogun State.
