OGUN POLICE RESCUE ABDUCTED TRUCK DRIVER, GUN DOWN TWO KIDNAP SUSPECTS

The Ogun State Police Command has rescued a professional truck driver who was abducted by suspected kidnappers, following an intelligence-led operation that also resulted in the death of two members of the gang.

The operation was carried out by operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit as part of efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks operating in the state. The police also recovered firearms, ammunition, mobile phones and cash suspected to be proceeds of crime.

The truck driver, identified as a senior employee of Dangote Cement Company, Ibese, was reportedly abducted on August 25, 2026. Following the incident, the police commenced intelligence gathering and surveillance aimed at locating the victim and tracking the kidnappers.

Investigators eventually traced the gang to its hideout, where tactical operatives launched an operation to secure the victim and apprehend those responsible for the abduction.

During the operation, the police reportedly engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle. Two suspected members of the gang were killed in the encounter, while other suspects escaped from the scene with gunshot injuries.

The rescued truck driver was recovered safely and is now in the custody of the authorities as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding his abduction and the activities of the criminal network.

The operation also led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, ammunition and several mobile phones believed to be connected to the activities of the suspects. Police additionally recovered about ₦2 million suspected to have been obtained through criminal activities.

The Ogun State Police Command said the successful operation demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing and the determination of its Anti-Kidnapping Unit to pursue criminals operating across the state.

The command is expected to continue efforts to locate the fleeing suspects, particularly those who sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter.

Police authorities have also intensified calls for residents to remain vigilant and provide useful information about suspicious movements and criminal activities in their communities.

The latest operation comes amid continued security concerns over kidnapping and other violent crimes along major transport routes in Ogun State, where commercial drivers and other road users have occasionally been targeted by criminal gangs.

The police assured residents that operations would be sustained to identify and dismantle kidnapping networks while protecting lives, property and businesses across the state.
