OGUN NYSC OFFICIAL ARRESTED OVER DEATH OF FEMALE CORPS MEMBER
The Local Government Inspector (LGI) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, Abass Olalekan, has been arrested in connection with the death of a female corps member.
The deceased, Victoria Ariyo, who was serving in the local government, reportedly died on Tuesday due to complications related to pregnancy.
Sources indicated that she had undergone a pregnancy termination, after which she developed complications that led to her death.
It was further gathered that Olalekan allegedly announced her passing informally and directed some corps members to arrange her burial. Her remains were reportedly interred at Kobape Cemetery, located along Kobape-Sagamu Road.
Additional claims suggest that the LGI may have been romantically involved with the deceased, a relationship said to have resulted in the pregnancy and its subsequent termination.
The incident comes shortly after the death of another corps member, Adeleye Mary, who was reportedly a friend of Ariyo. Mary, who also served in Abeokuta South, died under circumstances described as mysterious. She had been posted to Ogun State Television (OGTV) as her Place of Primary Assignment.
A police source confirmed that Olalekan is currently in custody at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, declined to comment on the arrest or the allegations. However, he confirmed that investigations into Ariyo’s death are ongoing.
He stated that the case is being handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department.
