OGUN LAUNCHES 'WINDOW ON AMERICA' TO EMPOWER YOUTHS THROUGH ICT
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has called on Nigerian youths to tap into the vast opportunities offered by Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to become self-reliant and globally competitive.
The governor made the call on Thursday during the launch of ‘Window on America’, a collaborative ICT initiative by the U.S. Consulate and GFA Technologies, held at the Ogun State Tech Hub on Kobape Road, Abeokuta.
Describing the project as the result of a visionary public-private partnership, Governor Abiodun said it reflects the joint efforts of the Ogun State Government, the Bureau of Information Technology, GFA Technologies, and the U.S. Mission.
According to him, the initiative provides a dynamic and inclusive space designed to connect the ambitions of young Nigerians with global opportunities. He emphasized Ogun State’s commitment to digital transformation, citing investments in broadband infrastructure, digital literacy, and innovation hubs across the state.
“This is more than just a space—it is a platform for learning, collaboration, and global engagement,” he said. “It reflects our belief in partnerships over competition and our vision of a world where innovation knows no borders.”
The facility will offer free access to programs such as English conversation clubs, digital literacy training, global affairs discussions, and American books and digital resources.
Speaking at the event, Acting U.S. Consul General JoEllen Gorg described ‘Window on America’ as a beacon of opportunity, highlighting its role in promoting entrepreneurship, leadership development, English learning, and cultural exchange. She noted that this is the second of such spaces in Ogun State and part of a broader network of 29 across Nigeria.
Equipped with high-speed internet, modern computers, and access to a vast e-library of books, articles, and academic research, the space aims to support youth, educators, entrepreneurs, and creatives.
Debo Omololu, CEO of GFA Technologies, revealed that his company has invested over N400 million in Ogun and created over 1,000 software engineering jobs. He encouraged youths to seize the opportunities offered by the center to secure their future.
Prior to the launch, the Acting Consular General paid a courtesy visit to Governor Abiodun at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
