OGUN GOVERNMENT APPEALS TO RESIDENTS TO SAFEGUARD COMMUNITY PROJECTS

The Ogun State Government has called on residents to take greater responsibility for protecting infrastructure and development projects provided at the grassroots.

The appeal is aimed at ensuring that public facilities established across communities are properly maintained and continue to serve residents for a long time.

The government stressed that infrastructure development should not be regarded as the sole responsibility of authorities, noting that communities also have an important role to play in preserving projects delivered for their benefit.

Residents were therefore encouraged to protect public facilities from vandalism, misuse and other activities capable of undermining government investments in their communities.

The government noted that safeguarding infrastructure would help ensure that resources committed to grassroots development are not wasted and that completed projects continue to improve the quality of life of residents.

The call comes amid broader efforts in Ogun State to expand infrastructure and improve services at the local level. The state government has continued to emphasise community participation in development programmes, particularly in areas such as roads, environmental protection and public facilities.

The government also urged community leaders, traditional institutions and other stakeholders to educate residents on the importance of protecting public assets and reporting acts of vandalism or deliberate damage to the appropriate authorities.

According to the government, cooperation between residents and authorities is essential to achieving sustainable development, especially as infrastructure projects are designed to address the immediate needs of communities.

The appeal further highlights the need for residents to see public infrastructure as collective assets rather than government property that can be neglected or abused.

The state government expressed its commitment to continuing development projects across Ogun, while urging residents to complement these efforts by ensuring that existing facilities are properly protected and maintained.

It said sustained community ownership and responsible use of public infrastructure would contribute significantly to the long-term development of the state and improve the impact of government projects at the grassroots.
