OGUN ENDS MONTHLY SANITATION EXERCISE

The Ogun State Government has ruled out bringing back the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, saying it will instead focus on daily waste collection across the state.

Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the decision in Abeokuta while inaugurating new waste management equipment, operational vehicles and an office building for the Ogun State Waste Management Authority.

The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, said Ogun had moved beyond the monthly sanitation model and that residents were now expected to maintain clean surroundings every day.

Abiodun said the government would invest in additional compactors and other equipment to strengthen OGWAMA’s ability to collect and properly dispose of waste from homes, businesses and industrial facilities.

He explained that the daily collection approach was also intended to address problems associated with the former monthly exercise, particularly delays in clearing waste after sanitation activities.

The governor commended residents, community groups, businesses and industrial operators for supporting efforts to keep the state clean.

He added that the government would continue equipping OGWAMA and other environmental agencies to improve waste management services and maintain a cleaner environment across Ogun State.
