OBI, NDC LEADERS URGE ASPIRANTS TO ACCEPT PRIMARY RESULTS

Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and leaders of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) have called on political aspirants to accept the outcomes of party primaries and uphold internal democracy in Nigeria.

They made the appeal amid rising tensions and disputes that often follow party primaries, where disagreements over delegate selection and vote outcomes frequently lead to litigation and defections.

Obi urged political actors to prioritise national interest over personal ambition, stressing that unresolved disputes within parties weaken democratic institutions and erode public trust.

NDC leaders also emphasised the importance of fairness, transparency, and adherence to party constitutions in the conduct of primary elections.

They warned that failure to respect agreed processes could deepen political instability and reduce citizens’ confidence ahead of future elections.

The call comes as political parties across the country continue preparations for upcoming electoral contests, with increased scrutiny on how candidates are selected.

Stakeholders say stronger internal democracy within parties is essential for strengthening Nigeria’s broader democratic system.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
