Farouq Aliyu Slams Peter Obi Over One-Term Presidency Promise

Former House of Representatives Minority Leader, Farouq Aliyu, has taken a strong swipe at Labour Party’s Peter Obi, following his repeated vow to serve only one term if elected president in 2027.

Speaking on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Wednesday, Aliyu described Obi’s one-term pledge as “mere rhetoric” and accused him of lacking a deep understanding of what it takes to run a country as complex as Nigeria.

“Obi is talking out of ignorance. He doesn’t know. States are different from Nigeria,” Aliyu said, dismissing Obi’s experience as a former governor of Anambra State as insufficient preparation for national leadership.

He argued that Obi, having been out of office for several years, may not fully grasp the realities of modern governance on a national scale.

“Sometimes when you’re out of office or not in the place, you don’t know. To me, it’s just rhetoric, and he’s also trying to convince people,” he added.

Obi has made headlines in recent weeks by consistently affirming that he would only serve a single term if elected in 2027, promising to deliver meaningful reforms within four years and insisting that trust and accountability should define leadership.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
