OBASA PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR FIRST LADY’S RENEWED HOPE INITIATIVE
The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has reaffirmed his support for the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) championed by the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.
Obasa made the pledge while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of his visit to the First Lady at the Presidential Villa on Sunday.
During the visit, the Speaker commended Mrs Tinubu for organising an interfaith fast-breaking event for women observing both Ramadan and Lent. He noted that the gesture reflected her commitment to unity and inclusiveness among Nigerians of different faiths.
He also praised the First Lady’s contributions to the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly through the expansion of the Renewed Hope Agenda to communities at the grassroots level.
According to Obasa, the initiative has played a vital role in extending government programmes and support to ordinary Nigerians.
“I came to see the First Lady during this special period when Ramadan and Lent are being observed at the same time. It is important to identify with her because she is a woman of faith who strongly believes in God.
“From her days in Lagos as the wife of the governor to her current role as the First Lady of the federation, it is always meaningful to pay a visit to Her Excellency and join her in prayers while we observe this fasting period,” he said.
Obasa also recalled the recent fast-breaking event hosted by the First Lady for Christian and Muslim women, describing it as a commendable initiative that promoted unity.
The Speaker further expressed appreciation for the programmes being implemented through the Renewed Hope Initiative, noting that they complement the efforts of the Federal Government in supporting citizens.
He highlighted several interventions of the initiative, including food distribution and the provision of menstrual hygiene products to secondary school girls, which he said had positively impacted women, children, and young people across the country.
Obasa added that Mrs Tinubu’s leadership experience in Lagos and her continued work at the national level had remained impactful.
He also urged state governors—whose wives serve as coordinators of the Renewed Hope Initiative in their respective states—to actively support the programme.
According to him, collaboration between the states and the initiative would ensure that more Nigerians benefit from the programmes being implemented.
“The food distribution and the distribution of menstrual pads to young girls in secondary schools are among the many projects she has carried out, in addition to her support for the President.
“It is important for states to lend their support because she cannot do it alone, and the programmes are not for personal interest but for the benefit of Nigerians, particularly women and children,” he said.
Obasa also stressed the need for governors across the 36 states to sensitise their residents about the President’s programmes under the Renewed Hope Agenda, using the Renewed Hope Initiative as a platform to reach more people.
