OB3 READY FOR GAS AS AKK REACHES 95%

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has announced that the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben gas pipeline is ready for first gas, while the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano pipeline has reached 95 per cent completion.

According to NNPC’s July 2026 monthly report, pre-commissioning activities on the OB3 River Niger Crossing were completed in August, clearing the way for the pipeline’s first gas delivery.

The OB3 pipeline was reported to be 100 per cent complete, while construction and installation work on the AKK pipeline had reached 95 per cent.

NNPC said the AKK project is expected to deliver early gas to Abuja in 2026, with the pipeline ultimately extending gas supply towards northern Nigeria.

The OB3 pipeline is designed to connect gas supplies from the eastern and western parts of the country and has a planned capacity of up to two billion standard cubic feet of gas per day.

NNPC said the completion of the River Niger crossing could unlock more than 500 million standard cubic feet per day of additional gas for the domestic market, with potential benefits for electricity generation, manufacturing and other industries.

Both projects form part of Nigeria’s broader plan to expand its gas transportation network and improve the reliability of domestic gas supply.

NNPC said stronger gas infrastructure would support the country’s energy needs and contribute to its wider economic development goals.
