NYSC WARNS BATCH A CORPS MEMBERS AGAINST LATE NIGHT TRAVEL

The National Youth Service Corps has issued a strong travel and safety advisory to prospective members of the 2026 Batch A Stream I, urging them to take personal safety seriously as they journey to their various orientation camps across the country.

In a statement shared on Tuesday via the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters’ official X handle, the scheme cautioned corps members against embarking on night journeys, stressing that travelling after dark exposes them to heightened security threats and road accidents.

The NYSC advised that all journeys to orientation camps should be undertaken strictly during daylight hours, noting that incidents such as armed robbery, kidnapping, road crashes and vehicle breakdowns are more likely to occur at night.

The scheme also encouraged prospective corps members to patronise only registered transport companies and approved motor parks, explaining that such operators are more likely to adhere to safety standards and regulations. According to the NYSC, using unregistered vehicles or roadside transport services increases the risk of travelling in unsafe conditions.

As part of its safety measures, the NYSC urged corps members to regularly share their live location with family members or trusted contacts throughout their journey. The scheme noted that real-time location sharing could prove crucial in the event of an emergency or unexpected delay.

The advisory further called on travellers to be alert and proactive while on the road, advising them to speak up if a driver engages in speeding, reckless driving or any behaviour that could endanger passengers. The NYSC warned that remaining silent in such situations could put lives at risk.

In addition, prospective corps members were advised to ensure their mobile phones are fully charged before departure and to carry power banks to maintain constant communication during the journey. This, the scheme said, would help them stay connected and seek assistance if necessary.

The NYSC also emphasised that corps members should not feel pressured to complete their journey at all costs. If it becomes late or unsafe to continue, travellers were advised to stop at a secure location and resume their journey the next day, stressing that no journey is worth risking one’s life.

Reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of corps members, the NYSC urged all prospective participants to strictly adhere to the safety guidelines as preparations intensify for the 2026 Batch A Stream I orientation exercise. The scheme noted that collective vigilance and responsible travel choices would go a long way in ensuring a safe and successful mobilisation process nationwide.
