NYSC KIDNAP: IED THREAT STALLS RESCUE OPERATION
Security forces halt tactical advance as landmines, explosives block access to gunmen's camp
Security operatives have temporarily stalled a planned tactical rescue operation to free kidnapped National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members due to the heavy presence of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by their abductors.
According to intelligence reports, security forces successfully mapped out the forest hideout in Imo State where the 19 graduates ambushed while traveling from Ibadan, Oyo State are being held captive.
However, commanders on the ground confirmed that the pathways leading into the camp have been heavily booby-trapped with explosives, posing an extreme hazard to both hostages and rescue teams.
Military and police tactical units are currently mobilizing specialized explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) experts and heavy-duty armor to safely clear the mined terrain before launching any assault.
The high-stakes rescue mission follows days of escalating anxiety and multi-million-naira ransom demands placed on the families of the abducted youth corps members.
Top security brass have assured the public that operations are being executed with extreme caution to ensure every captive is rescued alive and unhurt.
Authorities continue to appeal for public patience and support as security agencies work around the clock to dismantle the fortified criminal stronghold.
