Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has ordered the immediate removal of the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam, from his position. The development was announced on Saturday through a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, although the government did not disclose what led to the commissioner’s dismissal.

Following the directive, Mbam has been instructed to surrender all government property in his possession to the Secretary to the State Government. The items include his official vehicle and any other property belonging to the Ebonyi State Government that was under his custody while serving as commissioner.

The former commissioner was also directed to hand over his official responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works. The government gave no further explanation regarding the circumstances surrounding the decision, leaving the reason for the immediate termination of Mbam’s appointment unspecified.

Mbam’s removal comes months after he had previously been subjected to disciplinary action by Governor Nwifuru. In March 2026, the governor indefinitely suspended him from office over alleged dereliction of duty. At the time, the Commissioner for Infrastructure Concession for Development, Ogbonnaya Abara, was also suspended indefinitely in connection with the governor’s directive.

The two officials were later recalled in May, although reports at the time indicated that it was not immediately clear which of the suspended officials had been formally recalled. In the latest development, however, the governor has now ended Mbam’s tenure as Works Commissioner with immediate effect. Despite the change, Nwifuru assured residents that his administration remained committed to effective governance and the improvement of public infrastructure across Ebonyi State.
