NUPENG SUSPENDS STRIKE AFTER TALKS WITH DANGOTE GROUP
The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has suspended its nationwide strike against the Dangote Group after both parties reached an agreement.
NUPENG had earlier threatened industrial action, accusing the Dangote Group of refusing to allow some of its workers to join the union. The strike, which sparked concerns of fuel supply disruptions, was called off after a high-level meeting in Abuja.
The meeting was convened by the Department of State Services (DSS) and attended by the Ministers of Labour and Finance, officials of the Dangote Group, and representatives of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
Following hours of dialogue, both sides resolved the issues and agreed to work together, bringing an end to the brief standoff.
The development comes as a relief to Nigerians, who had feared the strike could worsen fuel supply challenges across the country.
