NSML BOSS SAYS UK CERTIFICATION CONFIRMS MCOE TRAINING QUALITY
The Chief Executive Officer of NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited (NSML) has said that the recent United Kingdom certification of the Maritime Centre of Excellence (MCOE) validates the quality and global standard of its training programmes.
Speaking on the development, the NSML boss noted that the certification reflects years of investment in capacity building, infrastructure, and technical training aimed at improving Nigeria’s maritime workforce.
According to him, the recognition from UK regulatory and maritime bodies demonstrates that the MCOE meets international benchmarks in safety, competence, and professional development within the shipping and maritime sector.
He explained that the centre was established to bridge skills gaps in Nigeria’s maritime industry and reduce reliance on foreign training institutions. The certification, he said, will further position Nigeria as a competitive hub for maritime education and training in Africa.
Industry stakeholders have described the development as a major milestone for the country’s maritime sector, noting that it could enhance employability for Nigerian seafarers and improve operational standards in the industry.
The NSML chief also emphasized the importance of continued investment in human capital development, stating that a skilled workforce is critical to the growth and sustainability of Nigeria’s blue economy.
As Nigeria pushes to strengthen its maritime sector, officials say international recognition such as the UK certification will play a key role in attracting partnerships and boosting global confidence in local institutions.
