NSCDC URGES NIGERIANS TO VERIFY INFORMATION ON INSECURITY
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has urged Nigerians to verify information before sharing it, warning that misinformation and propaganda could worsen insecurity and trigger attacks on citizens.
The NSCDC said false or misleading information can create fear, cause confusion and undermine ongoing security efforts, particularly when circulated widely through social media.
The corps therefore urged members of the public to rely on credible sources and avoid sharing unverified reports about security incidents.
It also encouraged responsible use of social media, especially as digital platforms have become a major source of information for many Nigerians.
The warning comes amid heightened security concerns across parts of the country, where inaccurate reports can increase tension in communities and complicate the work of security agencies.
The NSCDC said Nigerians have a role to play in supporting security efforts by communicating responsibly and reporting relevant information through appropriate channels.
It added that greater public awareness and responsible information sharing were important to maintaining peace and preventing misinformation from creating additional security challenges.
