NSCDC SUSPENDS OFFICER OVER ABUJA MARKET SHOOTING
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has suspended an officer accused of firing shots into the air during a confrontation with traders at Kubwa Market in Abuja.
The officer, Deputy Superintendent of Corps Onoja Babayo Samuel, will also face an internal disciplinary hearing to determine his responsibility for the incident.
The confrontation reportedly occurred on October 25, 2026, and led to his arrest by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command.
In a statement issued on Thursday, NSCDC spokesperson Babawale Afolabi said the alleged conduct violated the corps’ rules of engagement and standard operating procedures.
He said Commandant-General Ahmed Audi ordered the officer’s immediate suspension and an Orderly Room Trial following the incident.
According to the statement, Audi maintains a zero-tolerance position on the misuse of firearms and professional misconduct.
The disciplinary proceedings will determine the officer’s level of culpability in the alleged offence.
