NSCDC SUSPENDS BOUNCERS' OPERATIONS IN EKITI OVER SECURITY CONCERNS
NSCDC Halts Bouncers’ Activities in Ekiti, Demands Proper Registration
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ekiti State has ordered the immediate suspension of all operations by the Bouncers’ Association, citing security concerns and lack of proper registration.
The directive was announced by the State Commandant, Mr. Toma Matthew Enya, who emphasized that many individuals were operating as private security guards without being affiliated with licensed Private Guard Companies (PGCs), as required by law.
Speaking from his office on Friday, Enya explained that the current situation poses a threat to the state's security due to poor oversight and lack of regulation. He added that unregistered security personnel performing roles similar to law enforcement at events or gatherings can lead to confusion and possible security breaches.
According to a statement by NSCDC spokesperson SC Afolabi Tolulope, the command is urging the association to formally register under NSCDC supervision as a certified Private Guard Company. This, the command says, will ensure the group operates within legal boundaries and aligns with national security standards.
In response, the Bouncers’ Association, represented by Mr. Stephen Olajide, acknowledged the directive and expressed willingness to comply. The association also thanked the NSCDC for its ongoing efforts in training and supporting private guards across the state.
Mr. Enya warned that any individual or group found offering private security services without registration—or using uniforms and gadgets resembling official security agencies—will be arrested and prosecuted.
He stressed that regulating private security operations will strengthen overall safety in Ekiti and prevent potential abuses.
“This decision is not to witch-hunt anyone,” Enya noted, “but to ensure professionalism, accountability, and security compliance in Ekiti’s private security space.”
The NSCDC has called on all private security outfits in the state to register promptly or risk facing legal action.
