NSCDC DEPLOYS 1,300 PERSONNEL FOR EDO LG POLL
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed 1,300 personnel across Edo State to provide security during the forthcoming local government elections.
According to the command, the deployment is aimed at ensuring a peaceful, credible, and violence-free electoral process while safeguarding voters, election officials, and electoral materials.
The NSCDC said its personnel will be stationed at polling units, collation centres, and other strategic locations across the state to prevent disruptions and maintain law and order throughout the exercise.
The agency also disclosed that officers have been directed to work closely with other security agencies to respond swiftly to any security threats before, during, and after the election.
Residents and political stakeholders were urged to conduct themselves peacefully, obey electoral guidelines, and avoid acts capable of undermining the credibility of the polls.
The corps warned that anyone found engaging in vote-buying, ballot box snatching, violence, or other electoral offences would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Election observers noted that adequate security is essential to boosting voter confidence and ensuring a transparent and orderly electoral process.
The NSCDC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting critical national assets and supporting efforts to deliver free, fair, and credible local government elections in Edo State.
The deployment forms part of broader security arrangements put in place by relevant authorities ahead of the polls.
The agency appealed to members of the public to cooperate with security personnel and report any suspicious activities that could threaten the peaceful conduct of the election.
