The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa State has arrested two young men over separate acts of vandalism at the Jigawa State Polytechnic, Dutse.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, the first suspect, 22-year-old Abubakar Muhammad — who is also a student at the polytechnic — was caught red-handed on July 22 around 11:40 a.m. Abubakar was found to have removed and stolen eight ceiling fans donated by TETFund from different classrooms.

According to the NSCDC, Abubakar admitted to selling the electric motors from the fans to one Yahya Isma’il, a 20-year-old scrap dealer operating near the Dutse Central Mosque. However, Yahya denied any involvement when questioned by officers.

Just a day later, on July 23 at around 9:00 a.m., the NSCDC also arrested another 22-year-old, Fahad Nasir from Unguwa Dagari in Zai. Fahad was caught for allegedly vandalizing aluminum roofing sheets covering some classrooms in the same school.

Both suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.

The NSCDC warned strongly that anyone caught destroying or stealing public infrastructure will face the full weight of the law. The Corps urged residents and students to report suspicious activities and join hands in protecting educational institutions and public property.

"Vandalism is not just a crime against property — it’s a crime against progress," the command stated.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
