NSCDC ARRESTS SUSPECT OVER CABLE THEFT IN JIGAWA
** **
Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Jigawa State have arrested a 35-year-old man over the alleged vandalism and theft of an armoured cable at the Birnin Kudu Township Water Station.
The incident was reported around 4am on Sunday, September 20, after the facility’s electrical installations were allegedly vandalised. The NSCDC said its Birnin Kudu Division immediately began an investigation following the report.
The suspect, identified as Rayyanu Ibrahim from Kurima in Birnin Kudu, was arrested around 11am on the same day following intelligence provided by the Birnin Kudu Peace and Security Group.
According to the NSCDC, an armoured cable suspected to have been removed from the affected water station was recovered from the suspect and retained as an exhibit.
The corps said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly confessed to involvement in the incident and disclosed information about other cable theft cases. He reportedly told investigators that stolen cables were sold to scrap dealers.
The NSCDC said investigations had been expanded to identify and arrest other individuals allegedly connected to the activities. The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
