The Nigerian Revenue Service (NRS) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) have strengthened their partnership to intensify tax education and awareness campaigns across the country.

The two organisations signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing voluntary tax compliance through targeted education programmes, workshops, and digital sensitisation initiatives. NRS Chairman, Mr. Zacch Adedeji, described the collaboration as critical to building a tax culture among Nigerians.

“Tax education is the foundation of sustainable revenue generation. Working with CITN, we will reach more citizens, especially MSMEs and young professionals, to demystify taxation and highlight its benefits for national development,” Adedeji said.

CITN President, Mr. Samuel Agbeluyi, reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to professional standards and public enlightenment. The partnership will focus on simplifying tax processes, promoting digital filing, and addressing common misconceptions about the tax system.

The initiative is expected to boost taxpayer registration, reduce evasion, and support the government’s revenue diversification agenda. Joint committees have been set up to coordinate activities, including school outreach programmes and community town halls.

Stakeholders have welcomed the move, noting that improved tax literacy will contribute to a more transparent and efficient revenue system. The collaboration aligns with broader efforts to widen the tax net and reduce over-reliance on oil revenues.
