NPA PARTNERS CLEARING AGENTS TO RESOLVE PERSISTENT PORT GRIDLOCK
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has initiated a strategic partnership with clearing agents and other stakeholders to address the recurring gridlock at the nation’s seaports.
The collaboration aims to streamline cargo clearance processes, improve traffic management around port access roads, and enhance overall operational efficiency. During a recent stakeholders’ meeting, NPA officials emphasised the need for better coordination, timely documentation, and adherence to standard operating procedures by all parties involved in the logistics chain.
Clearing agents pledged to support initiatives such as the deployment of electronic systems for faster processing and stricter enforcement against traffic obstructions. Both parties identified poor infrastructure, multiple checkpoints, and delays in cargo release as key contributors to the gridlock.
The NPA assured stakeholders of ongoing investments in port infrastructure and digitalisation to reduce human intervention and bottlenecks. Experts believe the partnership will significantly ease congestion, lower business costs, and improve Nigeria’s ranking in global port performance indices.
The move is part of broader efforts to position the country’s ports as efficient hubs for regional trade. Regular reviews and joint task forces are expected to monitor progress and ensure sustained improvements.
