NOUN NAMES RAMATU IBRAHIM ACTING BURSAR AFTER MARAFA’S DEATH

The National Open University of Nigeria has appointed Mrs Ramatu Ibrahim as Acting Bursar of the institution following the death of its former Bursar, Mallam Nasiru Gusau Marafa. The university said Ibrahim’s appointment took effect on September 8, 2026, as the institution moves to ensure continuity in the management of its financial affairs.

The appointment comes shortly after Marafa was reportedly killed in Zamfara State. His death had thrown the university community into mourning, with NOUN describing him as a dedicated member of staff who contributed significantly to the institution during his years of service. His passing created a vacancy in the university’s bursary department, prompting the appointment of an acting successor.

Ibrahim is expected to oversee the financial and accounting operations of the university in her new capacity. As Acting Bursar, she will be responsible for ensuring that the institution’s financial administration continues smoothly while broader arrangements concerning the substantive position are considered.

The development is part of NOUN’s efforts to maintain stability in its administrative structure despite the unexpected loss of a senior official. The university has continued with its academic and administrative responsibilities while colleagues, students and other members of the university community mourn Marafa.

The appointment also underscores the need for continuity in critical university offices, particularly the bursary, which plays a central role in financial management, budgeting, revenue administration and accountability. Ibrahim is now expected to provide leadership in the department as NOUN continues its operations following the tragic incident involving her predecessor.
