The Northern Senators Forum has called for a thorough investigation into an attack that killed at least 26 people in Binari community, Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The lawmakers urged security agencies to arrest and prosecute those responsible for Friday’s attack, which was blamed on suspected bandits.

Those killed included women, children, Muslim worshippers who had just finished Juma’at prayers, and members of a local vigilante group whose office is near the mosque.

In a condolence statement issued on Monday, the forum’s chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, described the attack as barbaric and expressed sympathy with the victims’ families, the community and the Taraba State Government.

He said the senators received news of the killings with shock and shared the grief of those affected.

Beyond the investigation, the forum demanded immediate security reinforcements to protect residents and prevent further attacks.

Its recommendations included establishing a Forward Operating Base and conducting intelligence-led patrols along the Kompany-Asusar route and the River Benue corridor.

The senators also called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to strengthen operations across Karim-Lamido and neighbouring communities.

The forum said those responsible must be brought to justice while vulnerable communities receive stronger protection.
