Popular Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo has reportedly passed away at the age of 40 following complications from an illness.

According to emerging reports, the actor died at a hospital in Lagos, leaving family members, colleagues, and fans in deep shock and mourning.

Ekubo was widely regarded as one of the most recognised actors in contemporary African cinema, known for his performances in romantic comedies, drama films, and television productions.

He rose to national prominence after emerging first runner-up in the 2010 Mr Nigeria competition before gaining wider fame through his role in the Nollywood hit movie Weekend Getaway.

Over the years, the actor built a successful career featuring in numerous blockbuster productions and became known for his charisma, fashion style, and strong screen presence.

In 2020, he was recognised by the United Nations as one of the “Most Influential People of African Descent Under 40” for his contributions to entertainment and social development across Africa.

Concerns Over His Absence Had Sparked Speculation

The tragic report comes months after concerns surfaced online over Ekubo’s prolonged disappearance from social media and public events.

Recently, fellow Nollywood actor Ikechukwu Ogbonna had dismissed rumours about Ekubo’s health after fans expressed worry about his absence.

Ogbonna, popularly known as IK, had shared a video showing Ekubo attending a family gathering and insisted the actor was healthy and simply taking time away from public attention.

According to him, Ekubo deliberately stepped back from social media to focus on his personal well-being and escape the pressure associated with constant public scrutiny.
