Nollywood star Wumi Toriola has been hospitalised after facing intense online criticism.

The actress recently came under fire for publicly calling out veteran actor and director Afeez Owo, husband of actress Mide Martins. Afeez had shared his thoughts about Wumi’s movie character during an interview, but Wumi, displeased with his remarks, dragged him online.

Her response sparked outrage among fans and netizens, many of whom sided with Afeez and criticised Wumi’s reaction.

On Thursday morning, Wumi revealed that the heavy online backlash had taken a toll on her health, landing her in the hospital. Sharing a photo from her hospital bed, she wrote:

“Internet dragging and ICU are siblings.”

Despite the ordeal, Wumi expressed regret in the comments section, admitting she had learned from the incident and promising her fans to do better.

“I have heard you all, will do better next time. Wish me a quick recovery,” she added.

Fans and colleagues have since flooded her page with messages of support, praying for her speedy recovery.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
