Nollywood actress Ajara Lasisi, popularly known as Aunty Ajara, has died following a prolonged illness.

Her death was confirmed on Thursday by Nollywood director Tobi Oladele Teemony, also known as Tee Mony, in a statement shared on Instagram.

“With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved actress, Aunty Ajara. She passed on overnight after a long and courageous battle with illness,” the statement read.

Teemony disclosed that the late actress had received immense love, prayers, and financial support from colleagues and well-wishers across the world throughout her illness.

“We are deeply grateful to everyone who stood by her with prayers, contributions, encouragement, and compassion,” he added.

He further urged members of the public to stop sending donations to the account previously shared for her medical treatment, stressing that financial contributions were no longer required.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, loved ones, and everyone grieving this painful loss,” the statement said.

The announcement was accompanied by a video message from her elder brother, Ridwan Lasisi, who confirmed the development.

“Good morning to you all. My name is Ridwan Lasisi. I am Ajara’s brother. The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on,” he said.

He thanked Nigerians and members of the film industry for their support and reiterated the family’s appeal for donations to stop.

“We appreciate everyone, including industry members and the president. Please stop sending money. The account that was opened for her treatment is no longer needed. Thank you,” he said.

The actress’s death came barely a week after Teemony and several Nollywood figures, including Ronke Oshodi Oke, appealed for urgent financial assistance as her health reportedly deteriorated despite ongoing treatment.

Earlier reports indicated that Aunty Ajara was pregnant and battling a liver-related illness, with colleagues revealing that she had been placed on oxygen as her condition worsened.

Several Nollywood stars, including Wumi Toriola, Mide Martins, Afeez Owo, and Ronke Oshodi Oke, had rallied public support and raised funds for her treatment, sparking widespread concern across the entertainment industry.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
