NO HOLIDAY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN NIGERIAN LIVES – OBI BLASTS TINUBU OVER FREQUENT FOREIGN TRIPS

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has strongly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for leaving the country once again for Europe, just days after returning from a previous trip.

In a statement shared on Friday, Obi questioned the President’s priorities, pointing out that this latest trip marks Tinubu’s 10th visit to France in just two years, even as Nigeria battles with insecurity, hunger, and humanitarian crises.

According to Obi, more than 79% of Nigerians are facing food insecurity, while the country has recently been ranked among the worst nations for childbirth, living conditions, and life expectancy.

He also highlighted tragic recent events, including the Katsina State attacks that killed over 50 people and left more than 60 kidnapped, and a boat accident in Niger State that claimed 60 lives. Obi faulted the President for not visiting victims and their families before departing on holiday.

“No holiday is more important than the Nigerian lives you swore to protect,” Obi stressed.

He added that true leadership requires sacrifice, empathy, and presence, calling on the government to focus on healthcare, education, poverty reduction, and security instead of prioritizing foreign holidays.

“It does look like Mr. President is running away from Nigeria at every slight opportunity,” Obi said. “At a time when Nigerians need leadership, empathy, and presence, a President should not choose foreign holidays.”

Obi’s remarks have fueled fresh debate about the President’s frequent absence from the country and whether it undermines confidence in his ability to tackle Nigeria’s pressing challenges.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
