The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has insisted that its upcoming national convention is legitimate and in line with the party’s constitution, despite protests from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and his allies.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, dismissed claims that the convention process was faulty or excluded key stakeholders.

“We’re guided by our rules, and we’re guided by law. More importantly, we’re guided by the guidelines of the party,” Ologunagba explained.

He stressed that the party’s organs had already taken the necessary decisions regarding the convention, adding that every stakeholder — including those claiming exclusion — had the right to be notified of the meetings.

On concerns that Wike’s demands might disrupt the process, the spokesman was firm in his response.

“Again, that would be completely untrue. I don’t like to use the word lies, or dancing to the gallery,” he said.

The PDP spokesman emphasized that no court order currently stands against the convention, assuring party members and the public that preparations are on track.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
