A train collided with a commercial bus at Arena, Oshodi, Lagos, on Monday night, but no casualties were recorded, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency.

In a preliminary report issued on December 23, 2025, LASEMA confirmed that the incident involved a train and a white Toyota Hiace bus at about 7:53 pm. The agency said it received distress calls through its 767 and 112 emergency lines and immediately activated the state’s emergency response plan from its Cappa Base in Oshodi.

LASEMA’s response team arrived at the scene by 8:11 pm and found that the bus had been hit by an oncoming train, leaving it stuck on the rail tracks. Preliminary investigations indicated that reckless driving by the bus driver was the immediate cause of the collision, as the vehicle reportedly veered onto the tracks near the Arena shopping complex.

Despite the severity of the impact, the agency said no injuries or deaths were recorded. However, the bus sustained significant damage due to the force of the crash.

To prevent further danger, LASEMA carried out a risk assessment at the scene and implemented safety measures. Train operations were temporarily halted to allow for the safe evacuation of the bus from the tracks.

The damaged vehicle was later removed and towed to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority yard in Oshodi. LASEMA confirmed that the rail line has since been cleared and normal train operations restored.

The agency urged motorists to exercise caution around rail crossings and adhere strictly to traffic rules to avoid similar incidents in the future.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
