Analyst Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot to Frustrate NNPCL Reforms, Urges Tinubu to Stand Firm Behind Ojulari

A public affairs analyst and coordinator of the Coalition for Good Governance and Change Initiatives (CGGCI), Okpokwu Ogenyi, has raised concerns about an alleged plot by powerful individuals to sabotage ongoing reforms at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Ogenyi urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remain alert and resist any attempt to derail the positive changes being introduced by Bayo Ojulari, the Group Managing Director of NNPCL.

Ogenyi described the attacks and smear campaigns against Ojulari as a deliberate effort to slow down the progress made by the company under his leadership. He said Ojulari’s reforms have brought transparency, accountability, and efficiency to the once-opaque operations of Nigeria’s oil giant.

“Since Ojulari took over, NNPCL has seen significant improvements,” he said. “We now have transparent monthly financial reports, real-time monitoring dashboards, and serious internal accountability measures.”

According to him, Ojulari’s bold moves include:

Auditing old shady contracts involving crude lifting and infrastructure, uncovering inflated costs and revenue leakages.

Ending deals with unqualified middlemen and shell companies that previously drained national resources.

Strengthening internal oversight by encouraging whistleblowing and reassigning staff where necessary.

Launching real-time reporting tools that give clear visibility into crude production, refining, and fuel distribution.

Ogenyi urged President Tinubu not to be swayed by blackmail or deceptive lobbying aimed at protecting corrupt interests.

“These attacks are coming from people who benefited from the old, corrupt system. They want to bring back those days. We must not let them succeed,” he warned.

He concluded by reaffirming that Bayo Ojulari’s appointment was based on merit, adding that his leadership aligns perfectly with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

This statement comes shortly after NNPCL itself raised internal concerns about deliberate attempts to sabotage its efforts—a sign that the oil firm’s renewed commitment to transparency might be ruffling powerful feathers.

For now, all eyes are on the Presidency to see if the administration will continue to back the bold reforms taking place in Nigeria’s most strategic institution.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
