NNPCL SLASHES PETROL PRICE AGAIN, NOW SELLS AT ₦890 PER LITRE
In a surprising but welcome move, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has once again reduced the pump price of petrol, bringing it down to ₦890 per litre. This marks the second price slash in just one week, giving a bit of relief to Nigerian motorists grappling with the high cost of living.
Our correspondent observed on Wednesday that NNPCL stations across parts of Abuja—such as Kubwa Expressway, Gwarimpa, and Wuse Zone 4—have already adjusted their fuel pumps to reflect the new price. The latest cut reflects a ₦5 reduction from the previous rate of ₦895 per litre.
Meanwhile, retail partners linked to Dangote Refinery, including major outlets like AP Ardova, Optima, MRS, and Bovas, are offering petrol at an even lower price of ₦885 per litre.
According to Abubakar Maigandi, the National President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), the fluctuations in fuel prices are a direct result of the deregulated downstream oil sector. He added that price changes—up or down—will continue depending on market forces such as supply costs and exchange rates.
While this drop may seem small, it offers a glimmer of hope for commuters and businesses hoping for more affordable energy costs in the coming weeks.
