NNPC REVIEWS PARTNERSHIPS TO RESTART WARRI, PORT HARCOURT REFINERIES

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited is evaluating potential partnerships as part of efforts to restart the Warri and Port Harcourt refineries, according to the company.

The move is aimed at improving the operations of the two state-owned refineries and increasing domestic petroleum refining capacity.

The partnerships under consideration are expected to involve technical and operational support that could help address some of the challenges affecting the facilities.

NNPC has been working to rehabilitate its refineries as part of efforts to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products and strengthen local refining.

The Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company and the Port Harcourt Refining Company have both undergone rehabilitation efforts in recent years, although their return to sustained full-scale operations has faced delays.

The company said it was assessing available partnership options to determine arrangements that could support efficient and sustainable operations at the facilities.

A successful restart of the refineries would increase the volume of petroleum products processed locally and could contribute to the development of Nigeria’s downstream oil sector.

NNPC has also continued to emphasise the importance of improving the performance of existing refining assets while expanding domestic refining capacity.

The latest review of potential partnerships forms part of broader efforts to restore the state-owned refineries and strengthen Nigeria’s energy supply chain.
