NNPC COMMENDS NDLEA OVER ₦2BN CANNABIS BUST, DISOWNS TRUCK

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for intercepting a truck reportedly carrying 2,145kg of cannabis in Ondo State.

NNPC, however, said the intercepted truck was not owned or operated by the company or any of its authorised dealers.

The company’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, said preliminary checks showed that the vehicle, with registration number MKA 960 XC, was not part of NNPC’s official fleet and was not listed in its asset database.

He also noted that the logo displayed on the truck did not correspond with NNPC’s current official branding.

According to Odeh, the company is working with the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners to determine how its old branding came to be displayed on the vehicle.

NNPC said it takes the unauthorised use of its corporate identity seriously, particularly when such use may be linked to unlawful activities.

The company also pledged to cooperate with the NDLEA and other security agencies in investigating the ownership and operation of the truck.

NNPC further said it was reviewing its brand protection and asset monitoring measures and would take appropriate legal action where necessary.
