The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has called on President Bola Tinubu to order a full public inquiry into the recent raid by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH).

The association made the demand while reacting to reports that EFCC operatives stormed parts of the hospital premises during an operation that reportedly caused disruption to medical services and raised concerns among staff and patients.

The NMA said the incident was disturbing, stressing that hospitals are sensitive environments where law enforcement actions must be handled with caution to avoid endangering lives or interfering with emergency care.

It urged the Federal Government to investigate the circumstances surrounding the operation and ensure that clear guidelines are established to prevent a repeat of similar incidents in health facilities across the country.

The association also called for accountability from all parties involved, insisting that any abuse of process should be addressed in line with the law.

While acknowledging the EFCC’s mandate in fighting corruption, the NMA maintained that such operations must be balanced with respect for medical ethics and patient safety.

It further appealed to President Tinubu to intervene, stating that a transparent inquiry would help restore public confidence and prevent tensions between security agencies and healthcare providers.
